Pneumotonometry is a modern method of non-contact measurement of internal pressure. Why regularly measure pressure? Increased intraocular pressure leads to a decrease in visual acuity, clarity and field of vision, which is associated with atrophy of the optic nerve. There are a number of serious eye diseases that are accompanied by increased eye pressure (for example, glaucoma). If glaucoma was previously diagnosed in people after 40 years, then nowadays the disease has “rejuvenated” and many cases of the disease are now detected in the young population. The earlier the disease is detected, the better it is treated and the threat of vision loss is reduced. How to measure intraocular pressure? The ophthalmology office of the polyclinic of the State Institution “TMO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine for Khmelnytskyi region” is equipped with an innovative pneumotonometer device, TX-20R Canon 2024, Japan, which allows non-contact measurement of intraocular pressure. The procedure is painless, performed with a stream of air of a comfortable temperature. This device operates in a fully automatic mode, automatically measuring both eyes and printing the result, which reduces the measurement time. The doctor can monitor the condition of the patient's eye during the measurement. This device also allows you to measure the central thickness of the cornea, which is important during eye surgery. Advantages of measuring intraocular pressure by the non-contact method: Ability to obtain data even from a damaged cornea; Elimination of the risk of infection and allergic reactions to the drops; High measurement accuracy; Absence of any discomfort for the patient during measurement; The cause of increased intraocular pressure is most often glaucoma. Although it can also rise in other diseases, such as: Hypertension; Diabetes mellitus; Vegetative-vascular dystonia; Atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases. In some cases, intraocular pressure increases due to prolonged work at the computer, as well as due to poisoning with chemicals. The main symptoms of increased intraocular pressure are: Periodic "blurring" of vision; The appearance of rainbow circles around the light source, which do not disappear with increased blinking or rubbing of the eyes; Decreased clarity of contours when looking at various objects; Feeling of "heaviness" or pain in the eye; Appearance of a "grid" before the eye; Difficulty working at close range; The need to frequently change glasses; Difficulty in orientation in the dark; Possible headache in the brow ridges and temporal areas. If you regularly observe such symptoms, you should consult an ophthalmologist. This is especially true for people who have a genetic predisposition to glaucoma. Only an ophthalmologist can determine whether a patient has glaucoma, as well as determine the form and degree of the disease and methods of treatment.
