"Rehabilitation. Return to life" - how veterans with vision loss are adapted to life in Kyiv region (VIDEO)
27.06.2024

In December 2023, one of the medical rehabilitation centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Kyiv region launched a rehabilitation course called "Reboot" for veterans who have lost all or part of their eyesight.

The course was implemented with the assistance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine to adapt to life those who lost their eyesight as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation.

Up to ten servicemen can take part in one course, which lasts 21 days. Experienced trainers, including those who are also visually impaired and know all the important details of life in the non-visual world, teach them how to use Braille, special applications on gadgets and how to navigate with a cane.

During rehabilitation, the soldiers also work with a psychologist and a physical therapist. A special feature of the Reboot course is canine-assisted therapy. This is training with dogs and horses. Tactile exercises help people relax, and contact with animals has a positive effect on the nervous system and mental state.

For veterans with vision loss, the rehabilitation center organizes dance lessons that help the musculoskeletal system, as often a serviceman who lost his sight in the war has a number of other injuries.
