The incidence of COVID-19. A new strain
12.08.2024

The acute respiratory disease COVID-19 is transmitted by airborne droplets. Although in most cases the disease is a common cold, it can lead to severe complications and disability. The disease is most dangerous for medical risk groups, the elderly, and pregnant women.
In Ukraine, there are currently 10 sub-variants of the Omicron strain, and the new one is FLIRT. According to the Ministry of Health, three cases have been confirmed: two in Kyiv and one in Ivano-Frankivsk region.
The disease has not disappeared and remains life-threatening (especially for people at risk). At the same time, vaccinations against COVID-19, which reduce the risk of severe disease and its complications, are free for every Ukrainian.
General recommendations for the prevention of COVID-19:
wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds;
avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with dirty hands;
stay at home if you are sick;
sneeze and cough with tissues to cover your mouth and nose;
ventilate the room regularly;
keep a distance of 1.5 meters with a large group of people, especially with those who have symptoms of a respiratory disease;
when using a medical mask, make sure
ensure that it covers the nose and mouth;
change it as soon as it becomes wet;
do not touch the outside of the mask with your hands;
if you do, wash your hands with soap and water or treat them with an alcohol-based antiseptic;
do not reuse the mask;
do not use gauze masks, they do not provide the proper level of protection;
remove the mask: do not touch its outer surface - remove the mask by the elastic bands, roll it up and throw it in the trash.
take care of hand hygiene, the room, and the things you use most often (e.g., cell phone and computer, etc.)
avoid shaking hands and kissing when meeting friends, colleagues, acquaintances, neighbors, etc.
Over the past 2 weeks, 2 and 7 new laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 were registered, respectively, when service personnel sought medical care at the hospital (with a polyclinic) of the State Institution "TMA of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Kirovohrad Oblast".
At the first symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, weakness, muscle aches, loss of taste or smell, dry cough, shortness of breath), contact a doctor in a timely manner who will consult and refer you for further examination, if necessary.
